Francis Line of Colonial Wethersfield, Connecticut

This I1-AS line, which appears as group I1-2 on the results page, traces its ancestry to Robert Francis, who first appears in the records of Wethersfield, CT in the 1651, and who appears in the History of Ancient Wethersfield, a history of the town dating back to the town's colonial beginnings. DNA testing has found a close match between members of this line who have tested and the descendants of Robert Rose, who came from Ipswich England to North America in 1634, and came to Wethersfield soon after. Given the closeness of the match, it was originally thought that there might have been a non-paternal event, such as an adoption of a Rose child by a Francis family, and that this event might have occurred in the 1700s or so. However, a recent test has proven the common descent of two Francises from John Francis, who was born in 1658 in Wethersfield. This demonstrates that the tie with the Roses could not have occurred after 1658. There are currently five individuals matching this line, four of whom descend from John's son, Joseph (b. 1698), and one who descends from his son, Daniel (b.1700).
